Huttig's roots were born out of the need to grow our country, while helping others realize their dreams. In 1866, after the Civil War, two brothers, Charles and William Huttig, founded a sawmill and lumberyard in Muscatine, Iowa, joining a legion of small businesses working to rebuild and restore America. Because of their hard work, integrity and ability to make high quality product, their business grew quickly.
The sawmill and lumberyard evolved into a window sash and door manufacturer and the Huttig brothers opened their first distribution center in St. Louis, Missouri. Later, it would become known as the Huttig Sash & Door Company instilling, an expertise and knowledge in craftsmanship that has been woven into the fabric of the company.
Since 1866, the company has grown, evolved, enjoyed great success and endured the hardest of times. We've even changed our name to Huttig Building Products. But through it all we've stayed true to the foundation of what the Huttig brothers believed in — hard work, integrity, great service and providing the products needed to build America.
